Welcome Message By WISTA Ghana President

On behalf of WISTA-Ghana, it is my honour and privilege to welcome all of you to the beautiful and vibrant city of Accra for the 2020 WISTA International ExCo Mid-Year meeting and a Day’s Conference marking the 10th anniversary of WISTA Ghana joining this highly professional and dynamic association.

Over the last 10 years WISTA Ghana has been at the forefront of advocacy for women’s participation in the maritime industry in Ghana. At the heart of its activities is coordinating and building collaborations with relevant stakeholders for mainstreaming gender for sustainable Oceans and Seas and promoting the core objectives of WISTA International.

To this end the theme for the 10th Anniversary Conference is “New Technologies and Research for Preventing Plastic Pollution of the Marine Ecosystem”.

The objective of the conference during the 10th Anniversary celebrations is therefore to discuss this global concern with the view to harnessing the ingenuity and expertise of industry players and key stakeholders to contribute to the global response to this unfortunate development.

As we may be all aware, marine plastic pollution is a major global concern that not only threatens aquatic life and the marine ecosystem, but also human life.

It is my expectation that the Conference would provide a useful platform for informed discussions and knowledge sharing towards tackling this global concern.

I look forward to receiving you all in Accra. With its dynamic and cosmopolitan nature, Accra, will surely provide the ambiance for relaxation, and inter cultural and tourism experience.

Once again, I welcome you all to Accra, Ghana the Land of hospitality. Enjoy our traditional rich hospitality.
